FAQ Photocopier Pro

Photocopier tries to scan from my digital camera! How can I point it to my scanner ?

Photocopier Pro has a button labeled Select TWAIN device in its settings window that lets you switch to another imaging device.

I have Windows XP. When I try to scan from Photocopier Pro I get an error message saying "10: data parameter out of supported range". What does this mean and how can I correct it?

During installation of XP a Microsoft driver for your scanner will have been installed. The TWAIN part of the Microsoft XP scanner drivers have bugs (in particular the drivers for HP scanners). You should go to the website of your scanner's manufacturer to look for updated driver software for your scanner model.

When I try to make a copy I get a window titled 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library' with an error 'abnormal program termination'. Why is that?

Apparently no TWAIN driver at all is installed on your system. Make sure to install the software that came with your scanner.

When I ask for multiple copies the first copy prints ok, but all the queued copies (or at least the next queued document) fail. Why do the documents fail?

This is very much dependent on your printer (driver). The basic problem is that the Windows print spooler thinks that a document has finished printing when it runs out of data to send to the printer, so .. it sends the next job. Sadly, the printer isn't ready to accept the next job, and rather than handling the problem gracefully the printer may either print garbage or error.
One of my colleague shareware authors developed a solution for this problem. It's a small program called MDF (Multiple Document Fix). It delays the printing of the 'next' document by a specified delay time. More info on MDF can be found on Paul Claridge's site: www.paulclaridge.com.

When I ask for multiple copies I only get one. Why?

If more than one copy is requested, Photocopier Pro asks the printer driver to take care of that. Some printer drivers and printers have this function. In that case the application only sends the print image once to the printer, and the printer prints the number of copies requested. Of course this is much more efficient than sending the image to the printer time after time. However, there are printers which say they will take care of printing multiple copies, but in fact they don't. Your printer apparently falls into this category.
The remedy: try to find an updated printer driver on the website of your printer's manufacturer.
If there isn't: uncheck the Send one copy to printer, and let printer take care of printing multiple copies setting in Photocopier Pro's settings window. This will tell Photocopier Pro to send the image to the printer once for each requested copy.

I have a scanner and a printer both connected to the parallel post, using a switch box. How can I let Photocopier Pro pause so that I can switch from scanner to printer?

Photocopier Pro can be instructed to pause after scanning and before printing starts by checking Show printer dialog before printing in Photocopier Pro's settings window.

When I copy a small document or photograph Photocopier Pro print all black on the rest of the page. Why?

Photocopier Pro is like a real photocopy machine: it copies a full page. And since the inner side of your scanner's cover is black it copies this black too. A simple remedy: put a white sheet of paper over the photograh you scan.
Or use Photocopier Pro's automatic and manual crop functions (see the help file).

Can I use Photocopier Pro to fax ?

Yes, but of course you need to have a fax printer driver installed. Make that the printer to use in Photocopier Pro's settings window. Then press the Copy button. The output will be sent to the fax printer driver.
But of course it is much simpler to use our application Fax Machine!

Why does Photocopier Pro want to access the Internet each time it is run?

Photocopier Pro checks our website for a new version. If there is, it will pop up a notice. If there isn't: nothing happens.
You can of course instruct your firewall to always block Photocopier Pro from accessing the web if you like (but then you will not get a notification when a new version is available).
