FAQ Photocopier
Photocopier tries to scan from my digital camera! How can I point it to my scanner ?
Photopier uses the default imaging device on your system. The default device is the device last selected in the TWAIN "Select Source" dialog box. Photocopier doesn't show that box, because I wanted to make the program as easy to use as possible for the average scanner user (who will have only one imaging device).
What you could do is select the device, that you want to use in Photocopier, by starting another application that lets you select it, like Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photo Shop or Irfan Viewer. Just select it and then quit that application. That's enough.
I have Windows XP. When I try to scan from Photocopier I get an error message saying "10: data parameter out of supported range". What does this mean and how can I correct it?
During installation of XP a Microsoft driver for your scanner will have been installed. The TWAIN part of the Microsoft XP scanner drivers have bugs (in particular the drivers for HP scanners). You should go to the website of your scanner's manufacturer to look for updated driver software for your scanner model.
When I try to make a copy I get a window titled 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library' with an error 'abnormal program termination'. Why is that?
Apparently no TWAIN driver at all is installed on your system. Make sure to install the software that came with your scanner.
When I ask for multiple copies the first copy prints ok, but all the queued copies (or at least the next queued document) fail. Why do the documents fail?
This is very much dependent on your printer (driver). The basic problem is that the Windows print spooler thinks that a document has finished printing when it runs out of data to send to the printer, so .. it sends the next job. Sadly, the printer isn't ready to accept the next job, and rather than handling the problem gracefully the printer may either print garbage or error.
One of my colleague shareware authors developed a solution for this problem. It's a small program called MDF (Multiple Document Fix). It delays the printing of the 'next' document by a specified delay time. More info on MDF can be found on Paul Claridge's site: www.paulclaridge.com.
I have a scanner and a printer both connected to the parallel post, using a switch box. How can I let Photocopier pause so that I can switch from scanner to printer?
Before starting Photocopier to scan the document, go to your printer's icon, right click on it and toggle on "Pause Printing". Create an icon for the printer on your desktop to make this easier, but it can also be reached from Start/Settings/Printers. Once the printer is paused, let Photocopier scan the document. After the document is scanned, right click the printer icon and toggle off the "Pause Printing" and your printer will print the copy.
When I copy a small document or photograph Photocopier print all black on the rest of the page. Why?
Photocopier is like a real photocopy machine: it copies a full page. And since the inner side of your scanner's cover is black it copies this black too. A simple remedy: put a white sheet of paper over the photograh you scan.
Can I use Photocopier to fax ?
Yes, but of course you need to have a fax printer driver installed. Make that your default printer in Windows: go to Settings, Printers, right click the fax printer driver, and make sure Set as default is checked. Then start Photocopier and press the Copy button. The output will be send to the fax printer driver.
But of course it is much simpler to use our application Fax Machine!
